Transfer Advocacy Groups (TAGs)

Are you interested in improving transfer student experiences at MSU? We may have several amazing opportunities to get involved. Please see our current opportunity below and check back for future positions including focus group opportunities and undergraduate research assistant opportunities.

To express your interest, please fill out this form or you can email Dr. Sawtelle (vashtis@msu.edu) or Dr. Cosby (mdcosby@utk.edu).

Become a TAG member!

We are forming a Transfer Advocacy Group (TAG) that will meet every-other-week for the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters to create programming that will transform Michigan State’s College of Natural Science to better support transfer students of color. We are interested in working with a physics major who transferred from a community college! Is that you? Then come and join TAG, it will be made up of 4-5 undergraduate students who are passionate about supporting transfer students of color, 2-3 staff and faculty members who are transfer student advocates, and two external facilitators. You can participate in the fall semester, spring semester or both semesters.

TAG members will have a paid position in the college at a rate of $15/hr for a 10-hour a week commitment. In one week the 10-hours will be asynchronous “homework” and in the next week a portion of those 10-hours will be meeting with the TAG-team as a whole. This opportunity is particularly good for students who are interested in making change in the College of Natural Science, have ideas of how things could be different, and are interested in investing time and energy into affecting change here at MSU.

Participate in a Focus Group Interview

Throughout the fall and spring semester, there will be an opportunity to participate in a focus group interview with other transfer students of color in the College of Natural Science. This would be a 1 – 2 hour time commitment for the interview and you will receive a giftcard for participating in our research project.
